Throughout the ancient world, we see pagans building artificial mountains--pyramids and ziggurats--for magic rituals and demonstrations of power. Genesis tells us about one such attempt, in the plain of Shinar. At Babel, sinful man attempted to build his own city and his own mountain, as an assertion of his own godhood. How did Yahweh, the true God, respond? He thought it was hilarious. In this episode, we discuss the impulses behind Babel, trace them through history, and compare their ends and means to the City of God.
